Statement

Shawnee Community College (SCC) is committed to student success, academic excellence, and equitable access to higher education. One way we support this mission is by recognizing high school students who participate in the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program.

The AP Program enables students to engage in college-level coursework while in high school. Students who earn a qualifying score (3, 4, or 5) on an AP exam may be eligible for college credit at SCC. This opportunity can accelerate a student’s academic progress, reduce total college costs, and open space for electives, advanced study, or experiential learning.

SCC’s AP credit policy reflects national best practices and is informed by recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE), the College Board, and relevant statewide articulation agreements. Credit is awarded in a manner that is rigorous, transparent, and designed to support transferability. Policies are reviewed regularly in collaboration with faculty and academic leadership to ensure alignment with curriculum and evolving higher education standards.

To receive AP credit, students must submit an official AP score report directly to the Registrar’s Office. Approved AP credit will be recorded on the transcript with a grade of “CR” (Credit), which is GPA-neutral and does not affect the student’s grade point average. AP credit is not granted for courses in which the student is currently enrolled or has already earned a grade.

Please note:

  • AP credits do not count toward the current semester’s enrolled credit hours and will not impact full-time or part-time status for financial aid purposes.
  • Students should meet with an academic advisor to understand how AP credit applies to their degree requirements, general education, prerequisites, or transfer plans.
  • Transfer students should verify with the receiving institution how AP credits will be accepted and applied.
  • Students may request a reevaluation of denied AP credit through the Office of Student Affairs.
