The new Medical Assistant Program provides online and face-to-face instruction and internship opportunities for enrolled students.

Shawnee Community College is currently enrolling for summer and fall semesters. SCC continues to expand opportunities for both in-person and online classes in order to meet student demands.

The country is bracing for a potential standstill, wondering if the pipeline shutdown will leave everyone stranded.  At the same time, many owners of trucking companies are struggling to hire enough drivers to fill demand. The current situation means even more opportunities are available for students seeking to obtain their CDLs.

The Shawnee Community College's Board of Trustees recently honored retiring members Ms. Cathy Belcher and Mr. Randall Rushing during the regular monthly meeting held on May 3rd in Ullin. SCC Board Chairman Mr. Steve Heisner read resolutions honoring them for their service to the college community.

Shawnee Community College students recently competed virtually at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s 23rd annual Accounting Challenge. The School of Accountancy in SIU’s College of Business and Analytics sponsored the event for participants who tested their skills in individual and team competitions. The event, which took place virtually this year, includes a written accounting skills test followed by a creative team challenge that involves imaginative problem-solving contests.

Shawnee Community College faculty member and PTK Advisor Mr. Craig Bradley recently received a Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Advisor Award at the 2021 Virtual Catalyst Convention. The Distinguished Advisor Award was one of only 21 awarded nationwide this year.

The SCC Nu Alpha Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda and some of its members were recently recognized at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference. As part of the closing session of the digital conference, the local chapter won several awards during including chapter and student distinctions.

Shawnee Community College recently hosted the Annual Young Writer’s Competition, which encourages high school students to submit their non-fiction, short fiction, and poetry pieces for the chance to win monetary prizes.

Cannabis cultivation company aerīz, which has a production facility in Anna, Illinois, has donated $70,000 to Shawnee Community College to establish a cannabis industry workforce training program that will provide employment opportunities for southern Illinois residents.

The Alpha Lambda Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Shawnee College held its spring induction ceremony on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. New members must have a 3.5 GPA or better in 12 credit hours to be invited.

The Shawnee Community College Criminal Justice Department continues its guest speaker series next week. The event speaker is Special Agent Eric Ruhe from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Marion field office.

Shawnee Community College is getting geared up for the Ag Program's greenhouse plant sale, which will begin April 5th and continue through May 7th. The plant sale focuses on vegetables, herbs, perennials, and annual flowers grown from seeds by the Shawnee College Ag Program students.

Shawnee Community College announced today that the college would hold an in-person “Rolling Commencement” for spring 2021 graduates on Friday, May 14th beginning at 5:00 pm on SCC’s Main Campus in Ullin. The college will hold the event in two on-campus locations simultaneously in the Education Center and the Edward Smith Gymnasium.

The Shawnee Community College helipad is used occasionally by medical personnel when significant medical intervention is needed quickly. However, today it was a military helicopter that landed on the campus in Ullin. Major General Richard R. Dr. Hines graduated from WKTC in 2009 with her LPN transferring to Shawnee Community College into the RN program, where she became a first-generation college graduate.

The Shawnee Community College Lady Saints Basketball team is on a hot streak! The team increased their winning streak to 6 last night with the win over Olney Central. Tionne Colyer led the Saints with 25pts, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Shawnee Saints Men’s baseball team dealt visiting Olney Central a 77-74 overtime loss last night in Ullin.
