ULLIN, IL (September 25, 2025) – Shawnee Community College will host a Digital Threat Assessment® (DTA) training on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the L Atrium of the main campus in Ullin, Illinois. The training, offered through the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute, is tuition-free and open to a wide range of school and community professionals.
Developed by Safer Schools Together, Digital Threat Assessment® provides critical strategies to keep pace with evolving technologies and their impact on school and public safety. The training focuses on identifying online precursors to potential violence, helping frontline investigators, educators, and community partners proactively intervene before threats escalate.
Participants will learn about:
- Safe digital research practices
- Recognizing and managing anonymous online threats and fake accounts
- Addressing sexting, sextortion, and geolocational risks
- Verifying firearms and suicidal imagery
- Using search tools on platforms like Instagram to identify threats connected to schools
A significant portion of the day will be devoted to hands-on exercises with social media platforms and search applications. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop, MacBook, Microsoft Surface, or Chromebook to participate fully in the interactive training.
This training is designed for school administrators, faculty, counselors, law enforcement officers, school resource officers, psychological services staff, mental health agencies, community service providers, and school legal counsel.
