ULLIN, IL (February 19, 2026) – Shawnee Community College welcomed approximately 400 high school freshmen and sophomores to campus on Thursday for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Day, giving students an up-close look at hands-on career pathways available right here in southern Illinois.

Students from 11 high schools across Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski, and Union counties spent the day exploring 13 different career and technical programs offered at Shawnee. Current SCC students, faculty, and staff led interactive demonstrations designed to showcase real-world skills, equipment, and learning environments tied directly to in-demand careers.

CTE Day provided students with an early opportunity to explore interests, ask questions, and experience hands-on learning at the college level, while building awareness of local pathways from high school to college and careers.

Shawnee Community College regularly partners with regional high schools to support career exploration, workforce development, and seamless transitions from secondary education to postsecondary success.
