Actions from the November 2024 Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees Meeting

(Ullin, IL) November 25, 2024. The Board of Trustees of Shawnee Community College held its regular monthly meeting on November 21, 2024, at 6:00 PM, on the main campus and via teleconference. Agenda and Consent Agenda

The Board approved the agenda and consent agenda which included approval of Regular Board minutes from October 17, 2024; Special Board Meeting Minutes, Board Finance Committee from November 6, 2024; acceptance of the treasurer’s report and personnel report; and approval of the CY25 Treasurer’s Bond renewal.

 

Commercial Insurance Renewal

The Board approved the coverages proposed by Bushue for ICRMT, Earthquake, Workman’s Compensation, Cyber Liability, and storage tank pollution liability.

 

CY24 Estimated Tax Levy

The Board reviewed the estimated calendar year 2024 tax levy.

 

Board Calendar for CY25

The Board approved the Board Calendar of meetings for calendar year 2025. Board of Trustees meetings will be held the third Thursday of each with the exception of January and June. January 11 will be a Board Retreat. June meeting will be held on June 12. All meetings will be held in the River Room on Main Campus.

 

Grand Tower Energy Center Property Tax Appeal

The Board approved the Board Attorney to negotiate a resolution of a pending Jackson County, Illinois, tax matter and authorized the Board Chairperson or the President of the College to sign necessary settlement documents. Further, the Board approved the President to sign a check to pay the amount due back as an overpayment, received as taxes paid, which will exceed the President’s $25,000 limit.

 

Administrative/Employee Related

The Board ratified the following part-time job fulfillments: Trina Moore, Financial Aid Assistant and Mike Burgess, Adult Education Instructor. The Board approved a listing of open positions reflected in the FY25 budget. Current vacancies include: Education Technology Coordinator; Nursing Simulation Coordinator & Student Success Coach; Small Business Development Center Advisor; Academic Support Specialist; Administrative Assistant to the Dean of CTE; Data Reporting Specialist; Information Technology Student Support Specialist; and Executive Assistant to Administrative Services. The Board approved the resignation of Rob Lucas, effective November 15, 2024.
