Adult Education

The Adult Education Program supports the SCC mission by providing quality adult education and basic skills development to accelerate the achievement of secondary and workforce credentials. The program offers a variety of programming options to make class accessible and make success achievable for students at all skill levels.

 

Adult Basic Education Classes


These classes help adults to improve their reading, language, and math skills to help them reach their career and educational goals.

 

High School Equivalency/ GED Classes


These classes are designed to prepare a student to test for their High School Equivalency credential. It serves adults 16 or over who have not completed high school. Students under 18 must have a letter of separation from their local high school district to be eligible to enroll.

Alternative High School Classes


The SCC Alternative High School provides an innovative path toward diploma completion. Students earn credits in a nontraditional setting which emphasizes attendance, academic achievement, and positive attitudes. Students must be referred by their local high school.

 

Credit Recovery and Summer School Programs


These classes are designed for students who are still enrolled in high school but who have failed classes and are at risk of dropping out of school or not graduating on time. Classes are offered in conjunction with local high school districts. Contact your high school for more information.

 

Bridge Programming and Integrated Instruction


These classes help adults improve their basic skills to enter into and complete Career and Technical Education classes. SCC has Bridges to Healthcare, Information Technology, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics, and Hospitality & Tourism. All students receive comprehensive Pre-Assessment, supportive services when appropriate, referrals to outside agencies when necessary, and transition services to college and careers. All courses are offered in multiple formats to fit the needs of students and provide differentiated instruction to help each student reach their personal educational goals. 

Federal funds in the amount of $82,414 provide 34.8% of the funding for this program.
