The goal of the Health Services Training Center is to deliver the most up-to-date, science-based training available for treating life threatening emergencies in the workplace and community.
A wide variety of courses are offered using highly trained instructors. Emergency Medical classes are taught by request using curriculum standards in place by the Illinois Department of Public Health / Transportation and the local emergency medical services.
HEALTH SERVICES TRAINING COURSES
BLS for Healthcare Providers
Intended for healthcare professionals who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Students are taught CPR skills for victims of all ages, ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen, use of an AED, and relief of FBAO.
BLS for Healthcare Providers e-Learning
This course combines basic first aid procedures and Intended for healthcare professionals who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Students are taught CPR skills for victims of all ages, ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen, use of an AED, and relief of FBAO.
Online Part 1 Course, web-based and accessible 24 hours a day. Part 1 must be paired with hands-on skills practice and testing session (Parts 2 and 3) with an AHA BLS Instructor.
CPR Family & Friends
(Non-credential) Designed to teach lay rescuers to perform CPR and relieve choking in adult/child or infant victims. This course offers training for those who want to learn CPR and do not need a course completion card.
EMR-0118 First Responder
Offered Fall / Spring / Summer
This six (6) week course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills to identify and treat life threatening emergencies prior to the arrival of an ambulance. This course will focus on obtaining patient histories and baseline vital signs, applying bandages, splints, and providing oxygen therapy.
Semester Credit: 4 hours – 4 lecture hours per week (60 lecture hours per semester)
Prerequisite(s): Current AHA BLS/Healthcare Provider Card (BLS class is available for EMR students)

EMT-0160 Emergency Medical Technician – Basic
Offered Fall / Spring
This one semester course is designed to provide the student with techniques of emergency care and transition of the sick and injured. Emphasis is placed on the legal and ethical responsibilities of the EMT, anatomy and physiology of the human body, resuscitation and defibrillation, techniques of using emergency medications, and incident management.
Semester Credit: 10 credit hours (120 lecture hours and 60 lab hours per semester)

Heartsaver CPR AED
Teaches the lay responder to perform CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use, relief of choking and the use of barrier devices. More useful for those persons who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace.
Heartsaver First Aid
This course combines basic first aid procedures for injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Course content includes basic first aid for adults, in the community or at the workplace.
Can be taught alone or with adult CPR, AED use, and child and infant CPR and AED use. The intended audience includes employees who have a duty to respond to first aid or cardiac emergencies as part of their job responsibility. Please contact the Training Center for specific details.
Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid
This course combines basic first aid procedures and management of illness in a child for the first few minutes of care until professional help arrives.
It is intended for child care workers, teachers, or any one working with children who has a duty to respond to a first aid emergency. Modules available: Pediatric First Aid, Asthma Care, Adult CPR AED, and barrier devices. Please contact the Training Center for specific details.
Heartsaver e-Learning Courses
Heartsaver CPR AED, Heartsaver First Aid, Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED, or Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED may be taught via e-Learning:
