Committee Name:  Cultural & Community Engagement Team

Committee Type:  Administrative – Hybrid

Mission/Purpose: The Cultural & Community Engagement Team (CCET) serves as the body to develop and implement activities that increase awareness and respect for diversity within the campus and the community.  The CCET is responsible for providing educational opportunities and resources to create an environment that promotes an understanding of human differences.  The CCET will provide recommendations to the College’s other governance councils and administrative teams on climate and culture improvement opportunities.

Scope of Responsibility:

  1. Promote an inclusive environment that recognizes the perspectives and experiences of all campus and community members.
  2. Collaborate with other governance teams and local communities to enhance awareness, increase understanding, and highlight the contributions of different cultures.
  3. Provide training and educational opportunities to enhance cultural competence and inclusivity.
  4. Develop strategic initiatives that prevent bias and cultural insensitivity within the campus and community.

Policy Responsibility: Provide input to the DEIB Council when needed.

HLC Criterion:  1.C.2 and 1.C.3

Strategic Plan Responsibility:  Goal 3, Objective 1, Strategies C, E; Goal 3, Objective 3, Strategy A; and Goal 3, Objective 5, Strategy E.

Priorities for FY25:  Increase awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion through multicultural activities in the classrooms and throughout campus (3.1.C.) and Develop events that promote inclusive employee interaction (3.5.E.)

Reporting:  The CCET reports to the Executive Director of Human Resources.  The Executive Director will consider all recommendations made by the CCET and approve those that are informed by best practice and compliant with applicable law.  All approved recommendations will be forwarded to the DEIB Council and then Executive Council for approval.

Composition: Executive Director of Human Resources, Human Resource Support Specialist, Faculty (4), Staff (3), Administration (3), Center Coordinator (1)

Meeting Dates: Second Wednesday of the month from 2:00p – 4:00p
