ULLIN, IL (July 22, 2024)—Shawnee Community College is pleased to announce that several athletes have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2023-24 All-Academic Teams. This is an effort to recognize athletes nationwide for their outstanding work in the classroom. 12,245 student-athletes received the honor this year, including 11 from SCC.
The First-Team Students earned a 4.00 grade point average. They are Caden Paro, softball; Taylor Reiman, softball; and Nicholas ‘Nick’ Turner, baseball.
Second-Team honors went to Alyssa Aikins, softball; Sydney Schenk, softball; Shealyn Thorn, softball; and Jayden Welch, softball. These students received a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99.
Third-Team students earned a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA. Saints on that team include Laniya Barnett, softball; MacKenzie Dassing, softball; MaKayla Dejear, volleyball; and Ava McNeil-Stephens, women’s basketball.
