Students Participating in CTE Day 2025

ULLIN, IL (March 20, 2025) –  Nearly 300 high school freshmen and sophomores from ten different high schools participated in Career and Technical Education (CTE) Day at Shawnee Community College’s main campus in Ullin.

CTE Day usually happens in February as part of CTE Month. However, inclement weather last month forced the College to switch the date.

Students get to have hands-on experiences and learn more about nearly a dozen different programs that Shawnee Community College has to offer. Some of these opportunities can start while students are still in high school.

SCC students and faculty work together to demonstrate to the high school students how the programs operate. This year, 15 programs were spotlighted. Those programs include agriculture, automotive technology, nursing, medical assistant, occupational therapy assistant, cosmetology, nail technology, social work, criminal justice, computer technology, life and physical science, basic HVAC, basic residential electricity, truck driving, and welding.
