SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the store manager, this position is responsible for general customer service, pricing and stacking, inputting financial aid charges, general filing, and maintaining display racks.  The position will also be required to assist with other related duties as assigned by the store manager and/or full-time bookstore assistant.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

·         Ensure all customers receive prompt, courteous attention and service.

 

·         Open and close store each day, run morning reports on Booklog.

 

·         Assist in the daily inputting of financial aid charges and printing of reports.

 

·         Responsible for filing of financial aid.

 

·         Price and stock general merchandise.

 

·         Establish merchandise displays in a timely and promotional manner to encourage retail sales.

 

·         Insure all merchandise, display racks, and spaces are maintained, cleaned, orderly, and well stocked.

 

·         Train and provide work directions to student assistants.

 

·         Processes received goods for Accounts Payable.

 

·         Follow all college policies and procedures.

 

·         Meet college attendance standards and working long hours when necessary.

 

To perform other related duties which may be required by the Bookstore Manager, and/or VP of Financial & Campus Operations (related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but that are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associate with the employee’s class of work).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required: Associate’s Degree (may be accepted with agreement to complete) and One (1) year of business/retail experience.

Preferred: Direct customer service experience.

 

Computer Skills:  to perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; spreadsheet software and word processing software (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer).

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students and others employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Crouching:  Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

 

Reaching:  Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

 

Lifting:  Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.  Physical effort with some handling of light weight such as supplies or materials (0 to 15 lbs) on a regular basis.  Physical efforts including standing, lifting, and carrying light to moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 – 50 lbs) on a regular basis following safety rules for lifting.  Physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (50 + lbs) on an occasional basis following safety rules for lifting.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT  The employee mainly works in an office setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Schedule consists of mainly Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the day. May on occasion be asked to fill in on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or evening shift.
