There is new playground equipment at the ballpark in Vienna, Illinois, to honor the memory of a Goreville teenager who lost his life in a car accident in 2020. Brayden King, 17, played baseball and basketball at Goreville High School.
Shawnee Community College leaders are participating in the national Higher Learning Commission’s annual conference in Chicago. SCC President Dr. Tim Taylor and SCC Board of Trustee members Mrs. Andrea Witthoft and Ms. Deborah Shelton-Yates presented at this year’s conference.
ULLIN, IL (January 6, 2023)- Shawnee Community College would like to commend our Fall 2022 semester honors students for their hard work and dedication. Full-time students whose grade point average is 3.5 or better and enrolled in an Associate degree or certificate program are considered honor students. The President’s List consists of students achieving a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. Students on the Vice President’s List earned a GPA between 3.5 and 3.9. Twenty student-athletes made the Vice President’s list; six received a 4.0 and are on the President’s List. Those individuals are noted on the list with an asterisk (*). Shawnee Community College is set to participate in the Federal Highway Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP).

ULLIN, IL (August 3, 2022) – The start of a new semester is right around the corner, and with changes coming on how the state of Illinois handles COVID-19 mitigations, leaders at Shawnee Community College are updating how the college will approach the situation for the fall semester. “We are excited to welcome students back to campus in a couple of weeks, but we’re also looking forward to hosting more events on our main campus and the four Extension Centers. That’s something we had to pause for the last couple of years,” said Shawnee Community College President Dr. Tim Taylor. As the demand for safe truck drivers grows around the country, so is the truck driving program at Shawnee Community College. On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 9 a.m., officials from the College and the community will hold a ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking ceremony to expand the program, including CDL training, a new state-of-the-art simulator, classroom, and training range at the Metropolis Extension Center (5385 Industrial Park Dr, Metropolis, IL).
Commencement is right around the corner at Shawnee Community College, and one graduate will have something extra to celebrate this year. Jessica Cates will receive an Associate of Arts degree and an Associate of Science degree on May 13. Jessica received quite a surprise on Monday, May 2.
