Shawnee Community College Updates COVID-19 Guidelines ULLIN, IL (September 14, 2023)- With the recent increase in COVID-19 cases around the region and the approaching cold and flu season, Shawnee Community College is updating guidelines for a healthy and safe campus. Here are some reminders and tips for students, faculty, and staff: Wear a Mask with Cold and Flu Symptoms: If you have even the slightest cold or flu symptoms (such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or a runny nose), it is essential to wear a mask when you’re on campus. This helps reduce the risk of transmitting respiratory illnesses to others, including COVID-19. ULLIN, IL (July 25, 2023) – Shawnee Community College will hold a fall musical for the first time in four years. This year’s production will be Seussical. The show, which pays tribute to children’s author Dr. Seuss, will be directed by SCC alum Clarissa Fox. Performances are Thursday, November 2, Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Main campus in Ullin, Illinois. Seussical will be the first musical at Shawnee since 2019. Shows came to a halt because of COVID-19. “We’re very excited that this is becoming a reality again on our Main campus. Hundreds of community members have taken to the stage at Shawnee to perform, and we’re so happy that talented men, women, and children will have a chance to do that again, right here,” said Community Education Director Lindsay Johnson. The Shawnee Community College softball team and more than a dozen student-athletes are being recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their performance in the classroom.
Starting July 1, 2023, the four extension centers at Shawnee Community College will have new names. Currently, the centers are named after the city they are located. The new name will include the county instead.
Shawnee Community College President Dr. Tim Taylor has been recognized by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association for his leadership.
As students celebrate the end of the academic year around the state, a group of students and alumni in Cairo, Illinois, has something extra to celebrate this year.

Ten students have completed the Highway Construction Careers Training Program at Shawnee Community College. This is the second class to go through the program, a collaborative effort between John A. Logan College and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
