The Shawnee Community College Softball Program was delighted to receive a generous donation of $5,000 today on the main campus of Shawnee Community College.

The new program has been providing learning opportunities for only a few weeks, but already there has been significant interest. The college has partnered with the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging to offer a ‘Tech for Seniors’ computer/tablet navigation course for seniors at the West Vienna Senior Center, in West Vienna, Illinois, along with other senior centers throughout the region. The workshops teach basic computer skills, including conducting Zoom meetings for seniors who want to connect via video conferencing with family members who may live too far to visit frequently.

Ransomware -A term used to identify a type of cybercriminal activity poses potentially crippling effects to businesses and even national economies. For example, the recent attack by using ransomware on the Colonial Pipeline led to gasoline shortages and caused significant nationwide concern. It also caused quite a stir amongst many businesses about their ability to combat this new hacking mechanism.
Shawnee Community College is currently enrolling for summer and fall semesters. SCC continues to expand opportunities for both in-person and online classes in order to meet student demands.
Truck drivers are in high demand. The country is bracing for a potential standstill, wondering if the pipeline shutdown will leave everyone stranded. At the same time, many owners of trucking companies are struggling to hire enough drivers to fill demand. The current situation means even more opportunities are available for students seeking to obtain their CDLs.
