SCC’s Transition to Clearwave Provides Reliable Internet Access for Metropolis Extension Center
In order to provide students, faculty and staff with more reliable internet access, Shawnee Community College recently transitioned to Clearwave Communications at the college’s Metropolis Extension Center. Shawnee Community College is partnered with Clearwave Communications at the college’s main campus in Ullin and all three extension centers.
"Shawnee Community College is very happy to provide students with faster, more reliable Internet to enhance their educational opportunities. The added component of having a generator will provide continuous service and will prevent unforeseen outages to allow the college to be more academically effective." Dr. Vickie Artman, Vice President of Instructional Services at Shawnee Community College.
Approximately thirty percent of classes offered at the Metropolis extension are ITV classes, or distance learning, which requires dependable Internet access. The extension center also utilizes Internet for interactive video and access to college email accounts and Moodle. The transition to Clearwave will provide a more consistent Internet service to students, faculty and staff at the Metropolis Extension Center.
Shawnee Community College is currently subscribed to the “enterprise tier”, designed especially for businesses, which provides “dedicated guaranteed symmetrical bandwidth”, meaning the college is not sharing the services with any other establishments. With a generator backup and a guaranteed six-hour or less resolution time, the company will be able to provide the college will high speed, reliable Internet access.
Clearwave Communications is based in Harrisburg, Illinois.
